Situated in a private concession on the edge of the Maasai Mara, Bateleur and its sister camp, Kichwe Tembo, are in the direct path of the annual Great Migration. Kichwa Tembo means 'head of the elephant' and consists of private land leased from Masai landlords and situated in the remote western Mara, almost exclusively explored by fly-in guests. The tents themselves, which blend modern utility with just enough understated colonial luxe. &Beyond Bateleur Camp is situated in the Kichwa Tembo private concession which neighbours the Masai Mara.
The tents all have air conditioning and a private butler. There are 12 classic tents, 20 superior tents, and 8 superior view tents including three family suites. The beautiful tented suites are filled with antiques and African artefacts to give an 'Out of Africa' feel. The camp faces out on the plains of the Maasai Mara and lies directly in the path of what is considered to be the greatest spectacle in the animal kingdom, the annual migration of wildebeest and zebra. Set on a private concession, the camp lies at the base of the Oloololo escarpment and is fringed by riverine forest just below the spot where “Out of Africa’s” most famous scene was shot.
